LASG gives 7 days ultimatum to owners of illegal structures

The Lagos States Government on Tuesday served a seven day ‘Removal Notice’ to all owners and occupiers of illegal structures, shanties including containerized shops around Abattoir and Oko-Oba in Agege.

Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyemi who led the enforcement team of the Agency to deliver the Removal notice to occupants disclosed that over 2500 illegal structure and shanties were served the notice.

SP Egbeyemi stated further that investigations had revealed that the illegal shanties were occupied by miscreants and hoodlums who terrorised innocent citizens around Agege area.

He said there had been several complaint by well meaning members of the public suggesting that the miscreants dispossessed them of their valuables such as phones, wallets and jewelleries both early morning and late at night.

“It was an eye-sore with miscreants and hoodlums freely smoking and selling Indian hemp including prostitution by under age boys and girls around the area.

“Residents around Oko-oba railway line including Estate could no longer sleep with their two eyes closed as there were series of complaints about criminal activities of these miscreants and hoodlums.”

The chairman also maintained that the illegal structures were contributing to the growing concern of health, environment and safety issues in and around Agege area.

Speaking on the position of the Lagos Police on the development, Egbeyemi stated that the Lagos State Police Command would not relent in securing a safe environment for citizens within the State and the country at large.

He said, “the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Imohimi Edgal has directed that immediately after the expiration of the 7-Day ‘Removal Notice’ any miscreants or hoodlums arrested will be charged to court for prosecution.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police also directed further that the Taskforce should carry out raid on all criminal hideouts and black-spots across the State.”

In a related development, SP Egbeyemi commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for spending much on infrastructural development across the State which includes construction of more roads around Agege and Fly-over Bridge for motorists by Pen-cinema.
