Lagos State Task Force nab notorious traffic robber in Oshodi

In a renewed effort to curb the excesses of traffic robbers in the state, men of the Lagos State Task Force have arrested a notorious traffic robber Oluwole Kayode at Oshodi Bridge.

The suspect whose strategy was to disguise as a ‘Soft Drinks and pure water’ hawker to motorists was arrested following useful tips on his activities.

Chairman of the Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who disclosed the arrest said the traffic robber was apprehended by officers of the Agency who were positioned at Oshodi Bridge to check criminal activities of traffic robbers.

He stated that the 27-year-old suspect was arrested after he had broken a driver’s side screen of a Toyota Corolla car with hammer and snatched 2 phones and a bag containing valuables.

Egbeyemi said, ” Immediately the suspect was arrested and every items stolen recovered the owner was called on phone to pick up her bag and 2 phone at Task Force office, Bolade, Oshodi.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP EDGAL IMOHIMI has also directed that the arrested traffic robber be charged to court for prosecution and other syndicate in this shady act should be arrested within Oshodi and its environs.”

In his confessional statement, Kayode who hails from Ogun State said that he uses a hammer on the windscreen of motorists who refused to voluntarily released their belongings during traffic at Oshodi bridge.

“On the day I was arrested, I had used a hammer to break her vehicle’s side screen because the woman refused to surrender her bag and 2 phones when I approached her during traffic when it was raining, ” he said.

The victim, Mrs. Hadizatul Jiddah commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police for his efforts in ridding Lagos of crime and State Task Force for prompt action taken.

“If not for the prompt interventions of personnel of the Lagos State Task Force my bag and 2 phones would have gone,” She said.

SP Egbeyemi therefore commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for providing necessary modernised security tools and however assured members of the public that the Agency will not relent in its efforts to completely rid Oshodi and the State as a whole of such unscrupulous elements’ activities.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP EDGAL IMOHIMI has directed the Agency to embark on strict operational enforcement on motorists flouting the Lagos State Road Traffic Law of 2012 thereby causing obstructions and plying one-way across the State

CP EDGAL IMOHIMI said massive infrastructural development going on simultaneously across the State by the present administration cannot be justified as an excuse for flouting traffic regulations across the State.

He however warned motorists particularly around pen-cinema, Agege, Dopemu, Ile-zik, Oshodi, Mile 2, Berger, Igando and Lasu-Iba road to stop driving against traffic or causing obstructions to other road users.
