Lagos Police arrest 120 suspected cultists

The Police in Lagos have arrested 120 cultists who had converged on their July 7th celebration in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Recall that the Lagos State Police Command had on July 5th warned cultists in the state to shun the celebration or risk arrest.

True to the warning by the Police, some well meaning of the public had informed the police of a suspected cult meeting at a hotel in Ikorodu.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal said, ” This Command had on Thursday July 5th, 2018 warned cultists preparing to observe their sacred day called the ‘7th day of the 7month’, not to converge on any part of the State.

We also encouraged good Nigerians to give information about these group of persons anywhere they are seen.

” Based on credible intelligence available to the Command and which was communicated to the Officer In-Charge, Anti Cultism, the following suspects numbering one hundred and twenty (120) were arrested at Ikorodu where they were observing the celebration undergoing initiation in preparation to unleash mayhem on the larger society.”

Recovered from them were one big banner with 07 logo, one big clay pot, two small calabashes and one locally made pistol.

Drinks in a plastic bottle called ‘skoochies’ were also recovered.

Edgal further decried the rate at which young boy and girls get involved in cult related activities.

He said the suspects will all be charged to court after investigations concerning their activities have been concluded.

In his words, ” I have asked the Officer in Charge of the anti-cultism Unit to invite the parents and guardians of the suspects. After that, they will be divided into small group and arraigned in court.

Their case files will be sent to the office of the director of Public Prosecution for advice.”
