Lagos police arraign 2 notorious traffic robbers

Two notorious traffic robbers that had been terrorizing commuters and pedestrians along Maruwa bus stop, Lekki/Epe expressway have been arrested and arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court.

The suspects, Akpan Samuel and Ani Chukwuma were arrested October 29th, by a team of Policemen from the Lagos State Police Command led by the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, CSP Isah Abdulmajid.

Speaking on their mode of operation, the suspects who were remanded at Ikoyi prison said they would mount the pedestrian bridge at the said bustop, stand at a vantage position where they are able to monitor the traffic and carefully select their target.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti who confirmed the arraignment of the suspects said the suspects use big hammers to smash the windscreen of commuters before robbing them of their valuables.

Oti said, “Motorists plying Lekki/Epe expressway will now have a sigh of relief as two notorious armed robbers who specialised in robbing commuters were remanded in Ikoyi prison after their arraignment at Igbosere Magistrate-Court-ten on Thursday, November 1st, 2018.”

“The suspects revealed during interrogation that their modus operandi was to mount the 1pedestrian Bridge, Maruwa bus stop, Lekki/Epe expressway. At that vantage position, they were able to monitor the traffic and carefully select their target.

“They thereafter, swoop on the target and rob them of their valuables by means of a big hammer used in smashing side glasses and windscreens of drivers who refused to roll down their glasses when commanded to do so.

“The hammer and an improvised pistol that appears like a perfect prototype of a berretta pistol were recovered from them.”

The Spokesperson disclosed further that the activities of the suspects had been a source of concern to the Command thus the CP had to direct the DPO to mobilise all assets at his disposal to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the hoodlums.

CP Edgal Imohimi also assured Lagosians that the activities of this set of criminals will soon be a thing of past as the Command has increased surveillance along all routes with heavy traffic.
