Lagos marks Blue Line’s two years anniversary with 50% fare Cut

The Lagos state government has announced a 50 percent discount on fares for passengers using the Blue Line on Thursday, September 4.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos state governor, disclosed the move on Wednesday through his official X account.

The governor said the gesture is to celebrate the second anniversary of the Blue Line, which has carried more than 5 million passengers safely, without a single accident since its launch.

“Two years ago, we took a bold step with the launch of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line. Today, as I look back on how far we have come, I feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“In these two years, the Blue Line has carried more than five million passengers safely, without a single accident.

“Trains now run every ten minutes, making over 90 trips each day. Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier.”

According to the governor, these achievements show that with dedication and purpose, the state can build systems that truly serve the people.

“I want to thank you for the trust and support you have shown. This project belongs to all of us, and it is your belief in a greater Lagos that makes progress possible,” he noted.

“To mark this second anniversary, I am pleased to announce a 50% reduction in fares on the Blue Line for tomorrow Thursday, September 4, 2025.

“If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together.”

He added that the journey is far from over, stressing that “step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire, building a city where moving around is easier, safer, and faster.”

The Blue Line, stretching 27 kilometres from Marina to Okokomaiko, is a core part of Lagos’ rail mass transit project.

Phase 1, which covers Marina to Mile 2, began operations in September 2023. The second phase, a 14-kilometre extension to Okokomaiko, is being built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). It is expected to be completed in 2026 and will add six stations, new bridges, and a major depot at Okokomaiko.
