Lagos flags off rent-to-own, rental housing schemes Dec. 8

Lagos State Government has concluded plans to flag off the ‘Rent-To-Own and Rental Housing policies of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, administration next Thursday, December 8. Speaking to journalists at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, Commissioner for Housing in Lagos, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, said the move was in response to the yearnings and aspirations of Lagosians for affordable and decent housing.
He equally said it was geared toward fulfilling this administration’s mandate of an all-inclusive government in the state. Lawal noted that the RentTo-Own scheme will target low income earners in both the formal and informal sector, while the Rental Housing scheme will target the working class and all those with regular income, as the rent would be deducted from source.
According to him, “Government is starting the housing policy with over 1000 units out of the 3, 192 units earmarked to kick-start the project in the first phase in areas such as: Epe, Agbowa, Ojokoro, Igbogbo, Igando, Iponri, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Ajara and Badagry. “Lack of affordable housing affects particularly the low income citizens as they pay a disproportionate share of income for housing or live in inadequate housing that is cut-off from employment and access to health and other social services.
