Lagos Disburses ₦40m to Families of Fallen LASTMA Officers

The Lagos State Government has extended financial support to families of officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who died in the line of duty, disbursing a total of ₦40 million. At a presentation ceremony held at LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi, twenty beneficiary families each received ₦2 million as consolatory support.

The event was coordinated by Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, who emphasised that the gesture should not be seen as compensation, noting that no amount of money can replace human life. He described the disbursement as a symbolic acknowledgement of the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of the fallen officers, assuring their families of continued government support.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the initiative would strengthen public confidence in government institutions and reassure serving officers that their dedication and sacrifice would be recognised. LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, hailed the deceased officers as patriots whose discipline and service would remain an enduring part of the agency’s history, thanking Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritising human dignity and public service.

The wife of LASTMA’s pioneer General Manager, Adebayo Adegboayega Coker, urged beneficiaries to use the funds prudently, particularly for the education and welfare of their children. Responding on behalf of the families, the wife of the late Adeyemo Rotimi expressed gratitude to the governor, saying the gesture honoured the memory and sacrifice of their loved ones.

Established in July 2000, LASTMA plays a critical role in traffic management and road safety enforcement in Lagos. The disbursement forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to recognise the service of public servants and provide support for families affected by line-of-duty fatalities.
