In this era of civilization and modernization, some outdated and fetish traditional and cultural practices are still going on occur in some parts of the country.

A young lady, Aghatise Peace Sweet, who have issues with members of her husband’s family, is now on the run for refusing to do the family bidding over circumcision.

The young lady, a mother of one have been in a running battle with the husband’s family members, who called her an unclean woman, because she has not been circumcised.

Peace, was invited by the family for the rites and rituals of circumcision, when the husband’s family discovered that she was uncircumcised. She refused to honour the invitation. This made them angry, as it is considered a taboo for a woman not to go through the rites of circumcision. In February 2020, about six family members, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked and physically abused her at her residence, No.35 James Imudia Way, off Airport Road, Benin City Edo State. She lost her pregnancy in the process and sustained serious injuries.

It was gathered that, recently when they heard that she has given to a male child, they attacked her again in June,2021. This time around, it was a well-orchestrated plan, as it was done in the absence of her husband, who was away on an official assignment. Their anger was that an unclean woman had given birth to a male child in the family and is an abomination in the family as it has not happened before.

This second attack was severely beaten, stabbed multiple times even on her face, and shot on the leg, and left for dead.

The timely intervention of neighbours and passerby, who rescued and saved her life, as she was rushed to the hospital.

Aghatise Peace Sweet whereabout is unknown as she and her family have relocated for fear of been eliminated. While the husband’s family is threatening fire and brimstone as they are poised to carry out the circumcision process or kill her, that is a family heritage.
