Labour Strike: C’River govt set process in motion for payment of June salary

Despite the strike action embarked upon by workers in Cross River state over the none implementation of the 13 point agreement between the state government and the organized labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, has directed the Commissioner for Finance to put in motion a process to pay the workers’ June 2017 salary.
He said the salary should be paid to those who had been coming to work. Government was said to be enforcing the policy of no-work-no-pay labour law. If this policy is actually implemented, thousands of workers will be affected and others may be compelled to resume work and abandon labour action.
A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Mr. Christian Ita, said Governor Ayade has ordered that the salary be paid before the end of the week.
His Excellency, Senator Professor Ben Ayade has directed the Commissioner for Finance, Head of Service and Accountant General to immediately commence the process for the payment of June salary to state workers who have been coming to work while the strike lasted,” the statement added.
