NAN recalls that the Kwara Government had on April 9, ordered for a total lockdown of all the 16 local government areas of the state in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

This was after 48 hours of the lockdown of the ancient city of Offa, following the report of two positive cases of COVID-19 in the area.

Mr Ibrahim Lawal, a resident, said that the state government have been performing wonderfully well in terms of the actions taken to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has made a big step towards curtailing the spread of the virus, when he opened an Isolation Centre at Sobi, Ilorin, few weeks ago.

“He was also among the first set of governors to go into self-isolation after returning from the NEC meeting in Abuja, to avoid any problem that may arise.

“This same governor took a bold step immediately two people were tested positive in Kwara, by ensuring that all the people involved in the treatment of the suspected dead patient embark on 14 days self-isolation, and some others were tested,” he said.

Mrs Titilola Arowosaye, a housewife, also commended the governor, saying that the relief material that is being shared had an impact on the people, especially the poor and the less privilege.

She said that the food may not have gone round all the poor people in the state, but those that benefited are r

elieved of hunger, thereby called on individuals to contribute their own quota for the sake of humanity.

“Some were fortunate to get a reasonable quantity of food items and money, others got little, while some could not get any, but the idea is applauded.

“We should be grateful to the government for their effort and try to complement them by helping our neighbours in need with anything we are capable of doing,” she said.

Madam Iya Amina, a food vendor, said that the lockdown affected her business, but she knew that it was for a good reason and prayed that the effort would be successful on the long run.

“Many of us that sell food by the road side have not been making good sales because of this lockdown, some have even stopped selling due to loss recorded, but we know that it is for our own good.

The government have tried their own best, it is left for the people of Kwara to take care of ourselves and obey the instructions given.

“I pray this disease and all other sicknesses will go for good and those affected will be healed,” she said.

NAN reports that Kwarans adhered strictly to the total lock down order by the government as there is no movement, both vehicular and human walking about.
