Kwara NULGE Foresees Rapid Socio-economic Development After May 29

The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) on Monday said it was optimistic of rapid socio-economic development of the country after May 29 handing over of power.

The Kwara State Deputy President of the union, Mrs. Felicia Aina, made the assertion during the election of the union executives for Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State at Omu-Aran.

Aina said the positive signs of improvement within the economy few days after the emergence of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as President-elect were good pointers to rapid economic recovery.

“Within the few days of the emergence of the president-elect, we have started noticing signs of improvement, especially in the exchange rate, the stock market and other monetary dealings.

“To me, this has given us much hope and we are optimistic that such improvement would be unprecedented after the May 29 transition to another democratic government,’’ she said.

Aina said that with the expected buoyancy in the nation’s economic fortune, the union also envisaged an increased allocation from the Federation Account to the states accordingly.

She said the union in the state had formally presented its position to the government on the areas that required improvement and those it needed to consolidate to achieve the desired aims and objectives.

“We have made our position known to the government, because we are in the era of positive change, and we look forward to a good synergy between the government and NULGE members,’’ Aina said.

Mr Femi Oladipo was elected the new Chairman of the union in the council having scored the required number of votes in the election.

Other newly elected NULGE executive members are Olajide Abiodun, Vice-Chairman; Ajiboye Christopher, Secretary, Lekan Olanrewaju, Assistant Secretary and Tunde Awoyale, Treasurer.

The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, in his address to the participants, urged the new executive to live above board and to discharge their assignment without fear or favour.
