Kwara LG poll: Electoral body jettisons use of card reader
The Kwara Independent Electoral Commission (KWASEIC) has said that it will not use the card reader machines for the conduct of the forthcoming election into the 16 local government councils slated for 4, November.
The chairman of the commission, Dr. AbdukRahman Ajidagba, disclosed this in a maiden meeting with representatives of registered political parties at the Commission’s office in Ilorin.
He said that the state Government is not financially capable of getting its card reader machines for the conduct of the proposed local government poll.
Ajidagba added that the commission avoids the use of card readers machines for the election in order not to encounter malfunctioning problem of any of the machines during the conduct of the election.
“We abandon the use of card reader machines for this local government election to avoid malfunctioning of any of the machines while the election is in progress in any part of the state”, the Chairman said.
The Kwaseic boss however reiterated the commitment of the Electoral body to conduct acceptable, credible, reliable and fair election without the use of the card reader machines.
The Chairman who described the political parties as the major players in the conduct of the electron solicited their cooperation and support of the issues for the conduct of successful election.
He advised the representatives of the political parties not to incite the electorate to forment trouble before, during and after the election.
Ajidagba noted that no credible poll can be achieved in an atmosphere of chaos and acrimony or violence .He said the Commission will soon release the programme on activities of the election to allow the stakeholders fully prepare for the election.
The Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chairman of Moro Local Government councils, Mr. Theophlius Sunday while responding on behalf of other political parties assured the commission of their readiness to achieve a successful poll.The Daily Times reports that representatives of 30 political parties attended the meeting.
