Kwara Community distributes palliatives to 500 residents

The Omupo citizens, under the auspices of its umbrella national body, OMUPO DESCENDANTS UNION (ODU), has executed a comprehensive relief package to compliment
government’s effort to cushion the effect of the lockdown arising from the covid-19
pandemic on its people.

Palliatives

The package, in the form of food items, is designed as part of the palliatives to the people in Omupo.

The food items (rice and garri) were procured by the Palliatives Committees with part of
the money realized from the OMUPO COVID-19 RELIEF FUND, which was established with
the approval of the Olomu of Omupo, HRH Oba Yakubu Adebayo Buari (Ilufemiloye II).

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Mustafa Abubakar, the food items were distributed last month to residents.

The Olomu of Omupo who is also the Chairman of the Omupo COVID-19 Palliative Committee, Abdulkareem Ishola, said that the gesture is the first step in the categories of opportunities the Omupo Descendants Union (ODU) is putting together as palliatives to assist all residents in the town.

Alhaji Ishola, who was represented by the Chiarman of the Union in Omupo, Alhaji Hassan Issa Toyin, while thanking the recipients for accepting the little they can provide, urged them to stay home, stay safe, observe all health protective steps and most importantly pray for the town, the state and the nation.

He said, “This palliatives is made possible with the donations by benevolent indigenes of
the town and their friends, who thought it necessary to assist their brothers and sisters who were obviously in need of support to curtail the challenges of the prevailing pandemic and the attendant lockdown of economic and social activities”.

While commenting, the National President of ODU, Dr. Monisoye Sola Afolabi , disclosed
that “following a suggestion, which was subsequently endorsed by HRH, the Olomu of
Omupo Land, the OMUPO COVID-19 RELIEF FUND was established to provide palliatives
for our people resident in Omupo.
Pursuant to this, a Palliatives Committee was set up under the chairmanship of Alh.
AbdulKareem Ishola to develop the relevant framework for its implementation.

The Committee submitted its report indicating, among others, provision of some minimum
palliatives for 455 people in Omupo”, for which money was promptly disbursed, while the items were procured and distributed even before the Government’s palliatives arrived.

The Committee distributed 5kg of rice and 5kg of garri to each of the identified 455 people
that qualify for the palliatives. It was like manna from heaven as most of the recipients
expressed joy at the proactive step taken by the ODU in ameliorating the hardship caused
by the lock down.
