‘Kosofe deserves better representation’ – Dayo Bush

Hon. Dayo Bush-Alebiousu, the former lawmaker that represented Kosofe federal constituency at the House of Representative, has declared his intention to go back to the National Assembly, saying the constituency deserves a better representative than what we have at the moment.
The former sub-committee chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the lower chamber made this known while addressing party stakeholders drawn from all over Kosofe recently.
While speaking at the event, Hon. Dayo Bush reiterated his plans to bring Kosofe back to its enviable position in the area of representation at the National Assembly. He said the abysmal performance of the present representative of Kosofe at the National Assembly in the last three years should change, and it can only be achieved through adequate representation that would be provided by him.
“You will agree with me that it has never been like this for Kosofe in the area of representation, we deserve something better, we have done it before and we can do it again. As we go into the next elections, we must be mindful of the representatives we send to Abuja and even to various state houses of Assembly, we can’t be sending people there to compensate or patronise them, only those who are ready, fit and credible should be sent there, because that is where we make our policies.”
As part of his plans in the National Assembly, Dayo Bush also promised to support legislation that will further boost the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. He said this is the only way out of the poverty ravaging our dear nation.
He said the creation of more job opportunities can only take effect if the legislative arm of government come up with policies and legislation that will encourage this critical sector of the economy.
This is one area the lawmaker said he is passionate about and he is willing to join the advocacy. He said, “I am passionate about the SMEs, this sector drives our economy, if we want to get anything done, we must focus on that area. Again, if we must ask; what are the policies driving our economy, with the support of the National Assembly and the state Houses of Assembly, we should be able to achieve this.”
Also speaking on the calibre of people populating the legislative arm of government at both the National and State Assemblies, Alebioshu said the legislature requires experience, he said the period he was in the National Assembly were spent gaining the experience.
The former Chairman of House Committee on Treaties and Agreements said we have had people who have done four terms, even in Lagos and we have had people in the National Assembly who have done fifth terms and you can’t compare their experience to what they have when they first got into office.
The convener of Young Alliance, a group that is passionate about young people’s participation in politics and governance, also confirm that he is coming with a lot of experience because the last two terms have been spent gaining a lot of exposure, he said this is now the time to put it into use. “I have learnt a lot about leadership and it has helped me a lot with things I have to do. I have a better experience of how the legislature works, and that is the advantage.”
While giving his scorecard on what he has been able to achieve for the people of Kosofe constituency, Hon Alebioshu said; “I have sponsored more than 25 bills and motions on the floor of the House of Representative with more than 30 physically verifiable projects across the constituency.
“I am going to focus more on legislating to favour our economy, I am going to focus more on Education that is in comatose across the board, and these are the areas I am passionate about. I am a different person from who I was, we can only do better now, we have learnt and we would continue to learn.
“We must also now focus our energy on the legislative arm, we focus too much on the executive arm, we don’t focus on the legislative arm, what are the sorts of people representing our people, we must focus now to know the kind of legislators that we have, we must start asking about the kind of representation that we have.”
Dayo Bush was able to promote and achieve important legislative policies, sponsoring over 25 bills and Chaired the House Committee on Treaties and Agreements. He also served in many committees of the House including National Security, Petroleum (Upstream) and was a sub-committee Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) among other committees.
