Kogi revenue collectors allegedly kill tanker driver over N5000

The Lokoja-Abuja road was on Wednesday blocked by tankers and truck drivers who were protesting the alleged killing of their colleague by the Kogi state revenue collectors.

According to reports the deceased truck driver was said to be negotiating the N5000 demanded by the revenue collectors when they pounced on him, beating him to death at about 1 pm yesterday.

The ever busy road linking the south and northern part of the country has been blocked, rendering all categories of persons and vehicles immovable as tankers and truck drivers cordorned the road.

According to Sources,the state Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba who went to pacify the protesting drivers was allegedly chased away.

Meanwhile, commuters, movement of goods and properties between Lokoja and over 18 states have been jeorpadised .Travellers to either Abuja or Lokoja have to be ferried by motor cycles to enable them board other vehicles at either ends of the scene of the incidence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya (ASP) confirmed the incidence, but could not say whether the driver involved finally dies

Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Kogi state Council, Alhaji Tanko Ali also confirm the incidence as condemned the excess of the revenue collectors.
