Kogi government proscribes ASUU in its state University

Kogi state government has proscribed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the state University over refusal to resume academic activities despite meeting all their demands that led to the seven months strike.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello who announced to journalists after an emergency state executive council meeting yesterday said the decision became necessary as all efforts to make Members of the Academic Union of institution to see reasons for the calling off their strike failed.
Governor Bello explained that throughout. last week, he undertook a tour of the tertiary institutions in the i state with a view to having first hand information on their problems “while others have since resumed, ASUU-KSU refused to call off their strike.
According to him, “as a government, we have fulfilled over 90 percent of their demand and have even gone a step further to pay all outstanding salaries of both cleared and unclear staff including those that have committed one crime or the other.
The governor accused the lecturers of deliberately shutting down the institution which has resulted to increase in violent crimes on Ayingba and its environs adding that as a responsible government who has high regard for education as the pillar of the future of the state, cannot afford to wait. and allow the crippling of the institution.
The governor also ordered the striking lecturers back to work failure of which amounts to voluntary resignation.
He directed the governing council of the University to ensure security of lives and property and also ensure that no staff willing to work suffers any form of harassment or intimidation.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello has also put the security on alert to forestall any breach of peace and warned any attempt to cause trouble by any person or group of persons will be resisted by all means in accordance with the law.
