Killer Boyfriend of Ex-Ondo Deputy Governor’s Daughter Sentenced To Death

Adewale Momoh, Akure

An Ondo state High Court sitting in Akure on Wednesday sentenced Seidu Shakiru-Adeyemi to die by hanging for gruesomely killing his girlfriend Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of former deputy governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo.

Adeyemi, a graduate of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in July, last year for killing the former deputy governor’s daughter for a money ritual purpose at his house in Akure and allegedly buried the deceased inside his room for six days.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Samuel Bola, said the evidence before the court affirmed that Khadija was killed by Adeyemi and found him guilty of the crime.

In the judgement, Justice Bola held that the prosecutor and the state government’s counsel had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Adeyemi actually committed the offence he was charged for.

According to the judge, he stated that evidences from the pathologist indicated that the deceased was strangulated to death while her remains were buried in Adeyemi’s room after shaving her hair and removing two of her teeth.

“Going by the findings of the court and the evidences before the court, Adeyemi too the life of the young lady before burying her in his room.

“He had committed a capital offence and he should die by hanging.”

The Judge noted that the defendant failed to established his innocence in the crime over his failure to raise alarm when the two men who he claimed invaded his room killed khadijat and ordered him to bring jigger and shovel to dig the ground in his room.

“He (Adeyemi) kept the secret for five days until his immediate brother disclosed to their father about the plans of Adeyemi to dispose the decomposing body of khadijat.

“He could not give satisfactory evidence to absolve himself from the death of the deceased, all evidences proved that the young lady was not killed by two unknown men but was killed by the defendant.

The Judge however, said “having found you guilty, the sentence of this court upon you is that you, Sehidu Adeyemi, will be hanged until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul, the Judge ruled.

Speaking after the verdict, leader of the prosecution team and State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kola Olawoye, expressed delight over the judgement.

Olawoye who described the circumstances leading to the death of the deceased as unfortunate, noted that the state government was interested in the case because of the circumstances leading to the death of Khadijat Oluboyo, saying the judgement would serve as a deterrent to other criminals.

“The state decided to take up the case in order to know what led to the death of the deceased, and we want the defendant to explain to the whole world the part he took in the killing of the lady if any, thank God the court had done justice to the case today,” the Commissioner said.

Khadijat was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko, AAUA, until her death.
