Kidnapping: Expert calls for more roles for VGN

The Zonal Administrative Officer of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Deputy Commandant Solomon Adewale, has called for a more working relationship between the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and the Nigerian Police in order to curb the rising wave of kidnapping and other social vices in the country.

Commandant Adewale, who made the call while decorating some officers of VGN with their new ranks at the Southwest Office of VGN, Asero, Abeokuta, also urged federal and state governments to provide the group with basic logistics support in order to boost security of lives and property in the country.

Adewale was of the opinion that the group can fill the gap created by shortage of man power in the police force in the area of combating crime, if it is adequately supported by government.

He opined that the VGN is adequately equipped emotionally and physically to police their different communities based on their nearness to the people.

“Recently about 700 of our operatives were trained in Community Policing & Basic Intelligence at the Police College, Ikeja” Adewale said.

He said that the training has opened their horizon on the basic tenets of community policing.
