The wife of Kebbi state Gov.-elect, Dr Zainab Atiku, has assured women in the state that she would support her husband to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Zainab made the pledge while addressing women groups in the state in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
“I will protect women and child development,” she said.
“I can assure them that I would encourage my husband in addressing health and child issues.
“I will encourage my husband to resolve issues related to high rate of maternal mortality while focusing on women empowerment through skill acquisition and disbursement of soft loan to enable them engage in trade to support their families,” she said.
Zainab also promised to support attention was accorded to girl-child education as well as focus on girl-child school enrolment, especially in the rural areas.
“The development of women education would be accorded priority especially considering that education is the backbone of development in any society, so the girl child education will not be ignored,’’ she said.
