Katsina hands over Daura Corridor office to Nigeria-Niger joint commission

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State said that all is set for the handing over of Daura Corridor office to the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for cooperation to enable it swing into operation.

Masari disclosed this on Tuesday while declaring open a two day sensitization workshop on Trade barriers between Niger and Nigeria organized by Borderless Alliance PRODAP, PROFAB, CILSS funded by ECOWAS, USAID and IFAD Niger in Katsina.

The Governor represented by his Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Abubakar Yusuf, said the government has provided furnished office, accommodation, vehicles, furniture and fittings for the smooth take off of operations of the coordinating office.

Yusuf assured of government’s willingness and readiness to support and encourage the development of agriculture, trade and transportation especially within the corridors.

“It is indeed a historic occasion where the authorities of the two countries of Nigeria and Niger including ECOWAS and its subsidiaries coming together in Katsina to discuss barriers

and challenges hampering the development of local, regional and international trade with the view of obtaining a sustainable transformation of food value chain in West Africa”.

According to him, the discussion would facilitate easy and free movement of goods, services and labour within the integration.

“This is yet another day which will give us the opportunity to provide a platform for the two countries, ECOWAS and World Bank agencies to fashion out strategies and

ways of improving cross border trade exchanges and enhance food security especially within the three popular Economic corridor of Kano – Katsina – Maradi (K2M) as well as Zinder -Daura – Jigawa – Kano and Tahoua – Sokoto – Zamfara – Kano,” he stated.

Earlier, the Secretary General and Leader of the delegation from Niger Republic, Haruna Asakali said the workshop was organised to strengthen ties between the two countries and address issues relating to transborder issues among others.
