Katsina approves N703m to secure 14 hospitals in attack-prone areas
The Katsina state government has approved N703 million for the reconstruction of perimeter fences and security barricades in 14 general hospitals across local government areas prone to attacks.
Sani Magaji-Ingawa, commissioner for works, housing and transport, disclosed this on Thursday after the state executive council meeting in Katsina.
Magaji-Ingawa listed the affected areas as Kankara, Malumfashi, Faskari, Jibia, Funtua, Kafur, Dandume, Musawa, Batsari, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Danmusa, Katsina metropolis, and Amadi Rimi.
“These upgrades form part of our administration’s comprehensive plan to fortify health institutions in volatile areas and ensure the safety of both staff and patients,” he said.
The council also approved the upgrade of the comprehensive health centre in Mai’adua local government area to a full-fledged general hospital at the cost of N1.3 billion.
In addition, Magaji-Ingawa said ₦18.5 billion has been earmarked for the construction of the Rafin Iya–Tashar Bawa–Sabuwa road, a key corridor in the state.
“When completed, the road will enhance security operations, ease movement of agricultural produce, and boost trade and economic activities in the region,” he said.
“We are taking practical steps to link communities, support farmers, and expand our state’s internal road network for sustainable development.”
Also speaking at the briefing, Bala Salisu-Zango, commissioner for information and culture, announced that ₦747.3 million has been approved for the construction of a new Security Consultative Centre in Katsina.
He said the centre will serve as a permanent venue for multi-agency coordination, strategic meetings and security planning sessions.
“This facility aligns with our administration’s comprehensive security reform initiative,” he said.
“Upon completion, we will hand it over to the federal government for use as a central coordination hub for all security stakeholders operating in Katsina state.”
