Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, 12 others remanded in Kuje prison

An Abuja magistrate court has ordered that Aloy Ejimakor, a lawyer for the detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Ejimakor was arrested on Monday alongside 12 others while protesting in Abuja for Kanu’s release. Kanu has been in DSS custody since 2021.
The 13 defendants face charges including criminal conspiracy, disobedience of a lawful order, inciting disturbance, and disturbance of public peace.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), police allege the defendants were arrested in different parts of the FCT while “inciting disturbance and breach of public peace.”
The report claims they disrupted traffic, denied citizens freedom of movement, and were “chanting war songs” while demanding Kanu’s release.
When brought before the Kuje magistrate court, the defendants’ arraignment was stalled as they requested time to meet with their lawyers.
The magistrate then ordered them remanded and adjourned the case until October 24 for arraignment.
In a post on X, Ejimakor confirmed he was in custody, stating, “I am safe & sound but still under custody at Kuje prison.
“The magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way,” he added.
Ejimakor also questioned the court’s jurisdiction, noting, “Keep in mind that they bypassed several Magistrate courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje.”
The defendants were listed in two separate FIRs. One man, Chima Onuchukwu, was reportedly arrested separately at the Aso Villa gate while carrying a “Free Nnamdi Kanu” placard.
On Monday, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, had called for disciplinary action against Ejimakor for alleged professional misconduct.
