Kano will gain from deeper federal collaboration, Yusuf tells Tinubu

Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, on Monday held talks with President Bola Tinubu, outlining his administration’s priorities around security, infrastructure development, and closer cooperation with the federal government.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sunusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, said the meeting was held behind closed doors and focused on key challenges and opportunities facing the state, particularly the rising insecurity in some local government areas.

According to the statement, Yusuf briefed the president on the recent killing of a housewife and her children, describing the incident as tragic and urging the federal government to step up support for security operations to better protect residents.

The governor also highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies, calling for stronger coordination with federal security institutions to improve intelligence sharing and response.

Beyond security, Yusuf discussed Kano’s development agenda, placing emphasis on major infrastructure projects. He expressed appreciation to the president for federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, noting that the project is critical to boosting economic activity and creating jobs.

Bature added that the governor sought Tinubu’s backing to accelerate federal projects in the state and ensure Kano benefits fully from national programmes and investments.

He said the president assured Yusuf of the federal government’s commitment to working with the Kano state government to address security concerns and promote sustainable development.
