Kano varsity unveils automatic hand sanitizer, temperature monitor

Vice Chancellor of Kano state University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil, Prof. Shehu Musa on Monday unveiled an automated hand sanitizer/temperature monitor developed by the university’s faculty of engineering.

Musa, who launched the new inventions at the university, explained that the invention was part of the contribution by the university to improve the level of curtailing the spread of the coronavirus in the state.

According to him, the move was part of the university’s effort to bring easier solutions in the fight against coronavirus pandemic across the country by using modern technology.

“Solar infrared temperature measuring device, solar powered sensor sanitizing machines both produced by the engineering department of the university.

“Hand sanitizers that meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard produced by the department of chemistry,” the vice chancellor said.

He further explained that the production of the equipment and facilities by university’s faculties of engineering, science and technology education would bring succour, and relief to the ongoing efforts of government and well -spirited individuals toward overcoming the challenges of COVID-19.

He said the university has produced 20 pieces of solar censored hand sanitizer device machines, 20 pieces of solar powered infrared thermometers, 200 hand sanitizers WHO standard, which would be donated to the state government.

The vice chancellor added that the university has also developed a prototype fumigator machine as well as mechanical ventilator.

He called on wealthy individuals and organizations to invest in the invention in a bid for mass production of the devices for commercial purposes

He said the university has made available three institutes for conversion into isolation centres with a total capacity of 940 beds.
