Kano inaugurates committee to review education policies

The Kano State Government has taken a significant step towards transforming its education sector by inaugurating a 14-member committee to review existing education policies.
This move follows the recent declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector.
The committee’s primary objective is to assess the current policies and provide actionable recommendations to strengthen the education system.

Their terms of reference include aligning policies with Kano’s cultural and religious values, evaluating the feasibility of policy implementation, and proposing strategies for improvement.
Some of the key policies under review include:
- Kano State Girls’ Education Policy
- Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Policy
- Non-State School Policy
- Teacher Development Policy
The committee, chaired by Malam Abdullahi Muhammad Dutse, comprises experts from various fields, including scholars, government officials, civil society representatives, and members of the Emirate Council. They have been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report within three weeks. According to Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, the State Commissioner of Education, this initiative marks a significant step towards addressing the challenges facing the education sector in Kano State.
