Kana pledges support for NiMet, urges stronger agency synergy

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, has pledged increased support for the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), even as he called for stronger relationships among government agencies.
He made this commitment yesterday during his visit to NiMet, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving the agency’s objectives.
In his remark, Dr. Kana commended NiMet for its contributions to the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
He lauded the agency’s commitment to excellence and urged the management and staff to continue delivering high-quality services.
“I appreciate the strong relationship existing between NiMet and other government ministries and agencies. I call for even stronger and better relationships between the heads of the agencies. I will work with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, to see that NiMet receives more government support” Dr. Kana stated.

The Permanent Secretary stressed the need for sustained collaboration to enhance the agency’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
Kana reiterated assurances of the Ministry’s continued support for NiMet’s initiatives, further solidifying the agency’s position as a vital player in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Welcoming the Permanent Secretary, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, provided an overview of the agency’s operations.
He highlighted NiMet’s critical role in providing weather forecasts and its membership in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), where the NiMet DG also serves as Nigeria’s permanent representative.
Prof. Anosike noted that NiMet maintains robust partnerships with several ministries and agencies, including the Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Blue Economy.
He explained that these collaborations are crucial, as many sectors depend on accurate weather information for decision-making and operations.
“We have strong relationships with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Blue Economy, and other MDAs who rely on our weather forecast for various operations, Professor Anosike explained.
During the visit, Dr. Kana was taken on a tour of NiMet’s facilities, including its state-of-the-art digital weather broadcasting studio.
The tour highlighted the agency’s technological advancements and its efforts to modernize weather forecasting and dissemination.
