Kalu Meets Nigerians at Harvard, Rallies Support for Tinubu’s Reforms, Reserved Seats Bill

The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has urged Nigerians at home and abroad to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms and to support the Reserved Seats Bill currently before the National Assembly.

Kalu made the call during an engagement with the 2025, 2026 cohort of Nigerians at the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States over the weekend.

The Deputy Speaker described President Tinubu as a “deliberate and intentional leader” with a clear vision for Nigeria’s economic growth, stability, and development. He emphasized that the reforms being rolled out by the administration were necessary to reposition the country on a path of sustainable progress.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an intentional, deliberate leader that knows the direction he is headed and he is taking steps to take the country to that direction,” Kalu said. “This is the truth, and I say it without sounding political. Even if I was not in the ruling party, I would still say it. Reformers seek learning and knowledge. Leaders may be painted with different brushes, but legacies are built on deliberate actions.”

On the Reserved Seats Bill, which he personally initiated, Kalu explained that the legislation is designed to expand inclusivity in Nigeria’s political space, particularly for women. He said the bill forms part of broader efforts to deepen representation and give more Nigerians a voice in the country’s governance and development.

“What this bill seeks to do is to create a space for women,” the Deputy Speaker said, stressing that inclusion would strengthen democracy and national unity.

Kalu also praised Nigerians in the diaspora, noting their continued connection to the homeland and their commitment to contributing to its progress. “It is an advantage for Nigeria that those outside the shores of the country have not forgotten home,” he remarked.

The interaction at Harvard underscores Kalu’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between Nigeria and its diaspora community, while advocating for broad-based support for critical national reforms.
