Jonathan, other southern aspirants free to vie for PDP ticket- Turaki 

Former president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has been assured of access to contest for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the 2027 general election.

National chairman of the PDP, Tanimu Turaki who gave the assurance in Abuja on Tuesday said the former president is eligible to contest the party’s ticket because the party has zoned the 2027 presidency to the south.

He spoke at the Abuja residence of a former vice president of the country, Arc. Namadi Sambo during a visit by the leadership of the PDP to Sambo.

The national chairman told newsmen after the closed door meeting that the party has no anointed candidate but will provide a level play ground for all interested  aspirants from the southern.parrt of the country.

On the possibility of Jonathan’s candidature, Turaki said, “You see, like I’ve always said, we in PDP have decided to zone our presidential ticket to the southern part of this country. For now, we do not know who may emerge as our candidate, even though we know those who will not be our candidates.

“So it’s open for every member of PDP that is living in southern Nigeria or southern Nigeria descent.

“The process is going to be open, it’s going to be transparent, it’s going to be fair, it’s going to be equitable, and it’s going to create a level playing field for everybody.

“So if, for whatever reason, anybody wants to contest, we want to assure you, Nigerians, that you will be the deciders of who becomes your candidate.”

He however, assured of Sambo’s support for the party .
