Jonathan, Buhari Pledge To Accept Election Results

President Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and his major rival in the March 28 presidential elections, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday pledged to accept the results of the presidential elections without causing mayhem.

The leading candidates are both locked currently behind closed doors in a meeting at the Sheraton hotels, Abuja.

The meeting, which is coming just two days before the presidential and national assembly elections slated for March 28 is said to have been brokered by the national peace committee chaired by Abdulsalami Abubakar, who was also seen in attendance.

Other personalities in attendance‎ are John Onayeikan, the Roman Catholic cardinal archbishop of Abuja; Sa’ad Abubakar, the sultan of Sokoto; Mathew Kukah, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto; and John Oyegun, national chairman of APC.

The meeting is still ongoing.
