Joint Revenue Board Reports 98% Satisfaction Rate for New National Tax ID Portal
The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has announced that over 98% of taxpayers who utilized the newly launched national portal to retrieve their Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) reported a seamless experience.
The findings were detailed in a press statement issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, titled “Taxpayers Thumbs-up New Tax ID Portal, as JRB Races on With Implementation of Tax Reforms.”
Launched on January 1, 2026, the portal serves as Nigeria’s centralized taxpayer database, jointly managed by the JRB and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).
The system allows individuals to generate a unique 13-digit Tax ID using their National Identity Number (NIN), while corporate entities can retrieve theirs using registration numbers from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
This initiative is a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal reforms, aimed at harmonizing fragmented federal and state records into a single, secure database to improve revenue administration.
The JRB Help Desk, led by Mr. Effiong Abasifreke, conducted a comprehensive survey across various platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and telephone interviews. Respondents were evaluated on speed, ease of navigation, and overall convenience.
According to the analysis, the vast majority of participants both individual and corporate praised the platform for its efficiency. One user reported that the process took less than 10 seconds, while corporate entities like Trinity Music Academy described the fast-loading, self-service interface as “amazing.”
Executive Secretary of the JRB, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, urged remaining taxpayers to utilize the portal, emphasizing that the system adheres to strict Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) regulations.
Adesokan also addressed public concerns by dismissing rumors that the new framework would allow financial institutions to make arbitrary deductions from bank accounts. He reaffirmed that the ongoing tax reforms are “pro-poor and pro-growth,” designed with incentives for low-income earners and small businesses.
As the implementation of these reforms continues at both national and subnational levels, the JRB maintains that centralized data coordination is essential for transparency.
The Board credited the early success of the portal to public engagement and reiterated its commitment to building a modern, user-friendly revenue system that supports Nigeria’s broader economic objectives.
