JOHESU directs members in states, LGAs to join strike

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has directed health workers in states and Local Government Areas to join the nationwide strike by midnight on Wednesday.

JOHESU National chairman Biobelemoye Josiah gave the directive while addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

Josiah said that the association and the federal government have been unable to resolve the issues that resulted in the industrial action.

He blamed the government for not showing any seriousness to meet the demands of the union for adjustment of the CONHESS salary structure which affects over 95 percent of the health workforce nationwide.

Josiah attributed the industrial action to what he described as the “insensitivity and lackadaisical attitude of drivers of the health sector’’.

The Daily Times recalls that JOHESU had on April 17, announced it’s indefinite strike saying it would paralyse activities in all health institutions across the country.

“All federal government health institutions in Nigeria including federal medical centres, specialists’ hospitals, orthopedic hospitals, psychiatric hospitals among others will be the first to shut down.

Following the development, all laboratories have been shut with no technicians and technologists to run them.

Patients’ are worst hit as nurses and midwives some of the most influential members of JOHESU have all downed tools in all federal health institutions.

Though activities at federal hospitals across the country have been crippled, the striking union had repeatedly vowed to press their state and local government counterparts to join, to bring maximum pressure on the federal government to meet their demands.
