Jigawa monarch warns commercial motorcyclists against overloading, beating traffic

The Emir of Dutse in Jigawa, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad, has warned commercial motorcyclists to desist from excessive speeding, overloading and ‘beating traffic’ while celebrating Eid-el-Fitr.
Muhammad gave the warning in his Sallah message to residents at his palace in Dutse on Friday.
He said that the warning had become imperative to avoid road traffic accidents during the period.
The monarch said it had been observed that some of the accidents involving commercial motorcyclists were mostly as a result of overloading, speeding or beating traffic.
According to him, most of the commercial motorcyclists operating in the area carry excess passengers, particularly children during school hours.
“We are therefore, using this opportunity to call on commercial motorcyclists to stop overloading, speeding and traffic beating, and strictly adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.
“They should also partner with FRSC and other security agencies to save lives and prevent accidents across the state,” Muhammad said.
It would be recalled that two years ago, the emir had called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure that all motorcyclists operating in the state secured licence.
He had noted that very few motorcyclists were qualified to ride on the highways.
