Following the recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, by the United States President Donald Trump, tension has continued to rise in the Arab world even as world leaders have called for caution.
There have been reported protests in Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistani, Iran, Turkey, Egypt and other Arab cities, protesting recent stand of the US in Palestinian Israeli conflict over Jerusalem.
Agency report revealed that hundreds of protesters on Thursday gathered in downtown Cairo, Egypt to demonstrate against Donald Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
Protesters shouted slogans against the decision, which Trump announced last night, joining Arab and European leaders in their rejection of the move.
“We completely reject any interference with any inch of Palestine. Palestine is being occupied by Zionists, but we will not let the Palestinian cause go, we are with the Palestinian people and we will not recognize the Zionists,” said Activist, Ibrahim Fadoon.
We completely reject any interference with any inch of Palestine. Palestine is being occupied by Zionists, but we will not let the Palestinian cause go.
A makeshift Israeli flag was burned during the demonstration as well as a picture of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and protesters insisted on Jerusalem’s Arabian roots.
“I am here like every other Egyptian and Arab against Trump’s decision. I see it as insulting, aggressive, and arrogance that we cannot accept, and we believe in our right of Jerusalem being Arab and Palestine as well,” said Former Egyptian Presidential Candidate, Hamdeen Sabahi.
Egypt, which forged the first Arab peace deal with Israel in 1979, brushed off Trump’s decision and said it did not change Jerusalem’s disputed legal status.

…. IDF general urges Palestinians not to take to violence
The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Major General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai urges Palestinians to prevent extremists from inciting violence in the West Bank and Gaza.
In a Facebook post, the IDF general says “don’t listen to the extremists who, in their call to violence, do nothing but harm you.”
“Extremists want to incite the streets with lies and distortions because they say this is a religious war,” Mordechai writes. “In the end, a violent reality will only harm the Palestinian public who is being lied to about the religious nature of the conflict and the preservation of holy places.”
He underscores the changed US policy toward Jerusalem does not change the status quo of the holy sites, and that all border crossings in the West Bank and Gaza are open as usual
