James Rodríguez urged to join Manchester United

Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez has been urged to join English Premier League giants Manchester United by countrymate Faustino Asprilla.

Asprilla, who himself featured in the Premier League for Newcastle in the 1990s, feels playmaker James would be a great addition for United as they seek to return back to their glory days.

Speaking to Colombian station Blu Radio (via Dario AS), Asprilla said: “United would be a good place for James-it’s been a while since they have been winning trophies and they are thinking about strengthening the team for next season.

Madrid had acquired the midfielder for €80m from French side Monaco after he starred in the 2014 World Cup.

Rodrigues has struggled at Real Madrid and was once loaned out at Bayern Munich who didn’t make the move a permanent one.

“They’ve got good players-like Juan Mata, who plays in a similar style to James, although he’s a little more dynamic and attacking but I think James could easily fit into that side.”

The former Porto man is out of contract in 2021 and Real Madrid is looking to recoup some of the money they sent on the 28-year-old instead of letting him go for free.

Apart from United, the player has been linked with a move to Juventus and Napoli with Carlo Ancelotti being the other party interested in the player with both having worked at Bayern.
