ITF, NECA to train 3000 youths in skills’ acquisition programmes

As part of efforts to actualize the industrialisation and skills empowerment mandate set by the Federal Government, Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is collaborating with the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA), to established 18 training centres across the country, thereby training 3,000 unemployed youths under the Technical Skills’ Development Project, (TSDP).

This development was contained in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs of ITF, Suleyol Fred Chagu, who disclosed that, “during the year-long programme, the participants would be trained in 18 trades and crafts, including electrical/electronic maintenance, mechanical machinery and maintenance nationwide.”

“They would also be trained in welding fabrication works, plumbing/pipe fittings maintenance, beverage bottle operation, as well as information and communications technology.”

The statement also stated that other areas where the training will cover include; building construction, carpentry and joinery, agriculture, and agro-allied, animal husbandry, aqua culture and breeding and rearing hatchery, livestock and aqua culture feeds and fashion design and tailoring.

Meanwhile, 18 organizations will take part in the year-long training, which includes, but a few; PAN Learning Centre Limited, Niger Docks Nigeria PLC, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigerian Bottling Company, Truck Masters Nigeria Limited, Lafarge Cement (WAPCO) Plc, Kamjay Farms, Ibeju-Lekki, Chi Limited, Ruff’n Tumble and Style House.

The nationwide training will take place at selected centres, including; the ISTC, Ikeja, ISTC, Kano; ISTC, Lokoja; ITF Centre for Excellence, Jos; FSTC, Lasa; FSTC, Awka; Government Technical College, Sokoto and Benin Technical College, Benin.

It stressed that it was the Fund’s firm belief that the only way to achieve the Federal Government’s mandate is by equipping Nigerians with technical and vocational skills and curb the rising unemployment plaguing the country; promote sustainable wealth creation and instil youths with entrepreneurial skills.
