IPCR Urges Unity as Lent, Ramadan Coincide
The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Nigerians to embrace harmonious coexistence as Christians and Muslims observe Lent and Ramadan simultaneously.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by its Director-General, Joseph Ochogwu, the institute described the rare overlap of the two holy seasons as a unique opportunity to strengthen love, unity and tolerance across religious lines.
IPCR noted that the coincidence of Lent and Ramadan provides a platform for deeper interfaith dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
“The coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder that despite our differences, we share a common humanity and national identity. By working together, we can build a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement read.
The institute urged Nigerians to reject extremist interpretations of religion and instead uphold moral teachings that foster unity within communities.
It added that genuine devotion to God is reflected in how individuals treat one another, irrespective of religious affiliation.
Amid ongoing security challenges and social tensions in parts of the country, IPCR said the simultaneous observance of both seasons offers a timely reminder of the values of forgiveness, compassion and mutual respect.
The institute called on citizens to use the period to promote peace and national cohesion, while extending goodwill to Christians and Muslims marking the holy seasons.
