Investigate plot to poison Jonathan’s godson -IYC tells FG

Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has charged the Federal Government to commence full investigation into the alleged plot to poison one George Turnah said to be a godson to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The youth body made the charge through a statement by its spokesman, Barrister Henry Iyalla yesterday.

The statement was a reaction to a newspaper report that a plot was afoot by “some security agencies in connivance with some politicians from the region to poison Mr George Turner godson of former President Goodluck Jonathan in prison pending the perfection of his bail conditions.”

Going further, the IYC stressed, that “while we support the fight against corruption in the country, we insist that such fight must be done within the ambits of the 1999 Constitution which guarantees the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.

We at Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide (IYC) are deeply worried by this allegation geared towards the life of an Ijaw son as well as a citizen of Nigeria in the guise of fighting corruption.

The right to life is sacrosanct and one guaranteed under the enabling laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

No individual, security agency or government official has the plenitude of power to infringe on such fundamental rights of citizens.

We therefore call on the Federal Government and all relevant security agencies to commence full investigation into the alleged plot to poison our son, and effect arrest where necessary so as to bring the plotters of this heinous intentions to justice.”
