Religious group under the auspices of the United Christian leaders Eagle Eye Forum (UCLEEF) has faulted the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari for the approval of $1 billion for the purchase of security equipment to fight insecurity in the country.
National Chairman of the group, Pastor Aminchi Habu who briefed reporters in Abuja on Thursday alleged that the fund would be diverted to the ruling All progressive congress (APC) to prosecute the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
Habu also said that there was no difference between this decision to that of the president Goodluck Jonathan led people’s Democratic Party (PDP) which budgeted similar amount to prosecute the war against insurgency, only to end up in the hands of a few Nigerians.
He said, “This is another way to rig the election. What the government is doing now is similar to the agenda of previous elections when such fund were approved and ended up been shared for electoral purposes”.
Habu maintained that the party’s principal campaign promises of fight against corruption, insecurity revamping the economy, reducing poverty level and unemployment, unfortunately has not met any of those objectives in almost 3 years of emergence.
He emphasized that the nefarious activities of Boko Haram insurgency group, kidnappers, armed robbery and the spate of killings perpetrated by herdsmen across the country is more of concern today.
“We see Fulani Jihadists being imported from Niger, Mali, and Bourkina Faso roaming around the country under the guise of herdsmen creating havoc, destroying lives and properties in Benue, Southern kaduna and other parts of the country and the security agencies are handicapped because Buhari has refused to look at that direction.
“Herdsmen killings are another area that has jolted Nigerians as Buhari has allowed his Fulani kinsmen to kill Nigerians at random despite what he said during his inauguration that he is for no one but for everybody.
“Buhari is a leader who has refused to adhere to the principles of Federal Character that allows equal opportunity for all, irrespective of religion and tribe. Buhari appoints only Muslims and his relations to key positions. Under him, all security chiefs including the paramilitary are Muslims.
“That is why the minority Christians in the North suffered so many loses in terms of lives and properties with President Buhari abetting and pampering the perpetrators of the genocide that is going on in the North Central region and the southern part of kaduna state”, he added.
The national Chairman promised reaching out to opinion leaders across the country irrespective of religious and political leanings to mobilize against the purported bid by President Buhari to seek a second term in office in the 2019 election as well as rally round a credible successor that can take the country out of its present situation.
He implored President Buhari not to yield to on-going pressures from any quarter to seek second term in office in the 2019 general election.
