INEC tasks public to expose ineligible, foreign voters

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Election Commission (INEC), Kano State, Prof. Riskuwa Arabu, OON, has called on the general public and all stakeholders not to hesitate to expose under age, and foreign voters as well as other irregularities on its lists.

Riskuwa made the call Yesterday in Kano at a press briefing during which the commission announced the approval of the display of the National Register of Voters at all polling units from 6th to Monday 12th November 2018 for hearing of claims and objections.

According to him, although the commission has dutifully cleaned up the register using the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), it is the right of citizens under the law to examine the register and exercise their civic duty by drawing the attention of the Commission to the inclusion of any ineligible persons in the register.

He stressed that the Voter register is a National asset that should be protected and perfected through the involvement of all stakeholders to ensure a credible electoral process.

According to the Commissioner, the purpose of the display of the Register is to address the removal of ineligible voters, deceased register voters, Non Nigerians, Registrants with still pictures, under aged voters as well as those with multiple registrations.

That the commission’s Revision Officers (REVOS) would be at all the Registration Area Centers each day within the stipulated period to attend to people making claims or objections and issue forms EC2 and/or EC3 to complete which would be addressed during the last two days of the exercise.

Furthermore, that during the display of register of voters, permanent voters cards (PVC) would be available for collection at the registration areas, urging those who are yet to get theirs to make use of the opportunity to do so so as to be able to cast their votes in the forth coming elections.
