INEC registers 61,075 eligible voters in Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi state has disclosed that 61,075 eligible voters have so far been registered since commencement of the continuous voters’ registration (CVR) exercise.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. James Iorliam Apam, disclosed this during his maiden interactive session with leaders of political parties in the state.
Giving a breakdown on the continuous voters registration exercise, he said that 31,488 male and 29,637 female have been registered.
He said, “We treated 2,189 transfer cases, 3,269 damaged permanent voter cards were replaced and 8,176 distributed, since the beginning of the continuous voters registration exercise”.
The Commissioner who lamented unclaimed 282,747 voters cards, appealed to political party leaders to enlighten their supporters on the need to do so, as the PVCs would be their only means that will qualify them to vote.
He expressed optimism on introduction of innovative measures towards improving the country’s electoral process as the Commission will be introducing the electronic voting during the next elections in view of the gains of the data capturing machines in previous elections.
