INEC Engages over 17,000 Ad-Hoc Staff in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Halliru Aliyu Tambuwel, has disclosed that about 17,000 ad-hoc staff, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), university lecturers and others have been employed in the state.
Addressing a press conference at INEC’s secretariat, shortly after a stakeholders’ meeting, Tambuwel said the commission had taken delivery of all sensitive materials for the elections from Abuja, which have been dispatched to all the 27 Local government areas in the state.
On the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), Tambuwel said “we were able to distribute over 97 per cent of PVCs, in addition to over 4,000 card readers to be used in 4,085 polling units in the state”. He also said that about eight registered political parties were expected to participate in the general election.
Meanwhile, over 5,000 security men, including policemen and Civil Defence corps members, are expected to partake in the general election, according to the Jigawa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdul Jinjiri. About 3,000 were officers and men of the state police command, while the remaining 2,000 were members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
