Notwithstanding the hiccups experienced concerning the use of the Card Reader during the last Presidential and National elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that card reader would still be used in next Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
It stated that it had identified the challenges with the Card Reader and had taken adequate measures to address them.
The Commission, in a statement, at the weekend by its Secretary, Mrs. Augusta C. Ogakwu, said the provision of the guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 general election, which outlined what is to be done if a Card Reader failed and cannot be replaced by the Commission within a specified time frame, was clear.
The relaxation of the guideline on March 28, elections, Ogakwu stated, was only with respect to the presidential and National Assembly elections held on that date.
According to her, “The Commission has reviewed the operation of the Card Reader in the March 28 Elections, identified the challenges and has taken adequate measures to address them.”
