The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has weighed in on the national debate on restructuring, insisting that any efforts without discussions around women’s rights and equality will not be accepted.
The National President NCWS, Gloria Laraba Shoda, at the 60th National convention of the Council in Abuja, on Wednesday, gave the council’s position on the national discourse, stating that women must be active contributors to future of the country because it is only then true restructuring can be achieved.
The women leader said although the 1999 constitution talks about equality of citizens, it doesn’t specify gender equality, the absence of this section is the reason clamours for political inclusion, review of land and inheritance rights for women among other things are still rampant nationwide.
