Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University, Owerri chapter have begun an indefinite strike action.

The strike is as a result of the inability of the management of the institution under its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, a former ASUU President, to pay their salaries for two months (March and April).

According to the chairman of the union, Dr. Chidi Nwadiaro, the strike, which is “total, comprehensive and indefinite”, would continue until the payments were effected, adding that the university teachers were not going to do anything untoward because they were not paid, urging students to bear with them.
