Imo police command mops up 2, 614 guns, ammunition

The Imo state Police command has displayed arms and ammunitions mop up in the state in compliance in line with the directives of the Inspector -General of Police.
Briefing newsmen on Tuesday at the headquarters of the state Police Command, the State Commissioner, Mr. Chris Ezike disclosed that the list of prohibited Firearms so far recovered in the state includes: artillery of all sorts, apparatus for the discharge of any explosives of gas diffusing projectiles, Rocket Weapon, Bombs and grenades, machine guns and machine pistols, Military rifles among others
According to him, the command had already began the process of the decapitation of armed robbery, kidnappings and mopping up of arms before the Inspector – General of Police’s directives.
He said: ” It has automatically led to a reduction in the number of light and small but dangerous weapons within the Imo polity. It has also led to a reduction in crime of various various dimensions for example kidnappings, armed Robbery, cultism/cult related violence and brigandage.
Adding, it has become an exercise in proactivity aimed at checking the activities of would be political thugs as we journey towards 2019.
Ezike further stated that all persons arrested in connection with recoveries that are not voluntarily made are facing various charges in the court.
