Imo: Group drums support for guber aspirant with pedigree to deliver

A Lagos-based socio-cultural group, ImoPride, on Monday advised residents of the state to vote for candidates that would bring development, peace and unity to the state after 2019’s general elections.

The pressure group said that the state needed neutral aspirants that would bring peace, development and unity to the state on their assumption of office.

The chairman of the group, Chief Okey Ikemefula, told newsmen in Lagos that they had decided to support the candidature of Mr George Emenalo as a gubernatorial candidate in the state come 2019.

He said that they took decision because they believed Emenalo had all it takes to bring positive change and peace to the state.

Ikemefula said that their choice of Emenalo was not based on their preferences for any political party.

He a said that his group and other had known Emenalo for no less than 20 years based on his humanitarian services to the people.

He described the aspirant as an upright man who would ensure that the residents of the state enjoyed dividends of democracy if elected governor in the 2019 general elections.

No matter the input of the Federal Government, states will not develop if they fail to get it right and make the people feel the impact of good governance.

Nigerians have failed to realise the fact that most of their woes are caused by the inability of some state governments to perform. All blames go to the Federal Government which should not be so.
We must begin to hold our governors and other public office holders accountable and insist that they deliver on their mandates,” he said.

According to him, the power tussle in Imo has remained amongst those who have been in power for too long.

We need a new lease of leadership. We need a new face in Imo who is God fearing and has integrity to deliver on his promises.’’

Ikemefula who said that the citizens of the state were suffering added that they would legally ensure that good leadership would be enthroned in Imo in 2019.

He advised residents of the state to stop their leaders from giving them the impression that the Federal Government was responsible for their problems.
One, however, begins to wonder what happens to all the funds that had accrued to states over the past years to fund projects.

It will not be business as usual in 2019. We are working with other Imo groups in the Diaspora to ensure that we get it right in 2019 in Imo.

We also appeal to other Nigerians to insist that their best and trusted sons and daughters are elected into public offices during next year’s general elections” he said

He said that the group would support Emenalo in any of the political parties he chooses to realise his political ambition.

Ikemefula, however, urged the people of Imo to shun enticements and money bags.

He advised them to vote for people that would deliver the dividends of democracy to them on assumption of office.

We can use our votes to further assist the Federal Government in weeding out corruption. The year 2019 is the time and we must protect our votes.” he said.

With Emenalo’s recent declaration to run for the governorship race in Imo, the number of aspirants had risen to 21.
