Imo 2019 guber race: Owerri residents celebrate APC’s submission of Senator Uzodimma name to INEC
Owerri, the Imo state capital has been thrown in festive mood with many residents in jubilation as the news filtered in that All Progressives Congress (APC) had submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Hope Uzodimma’s name as the party’s governorship candidate for 2019 for the state.
The jubilation began last weekend in several joints, public bars and hotels, as the people of Imo heard what they described as the cheering news.
As the news spread across, many Imolites (Imo people) declared free drinks in different places to celebrate the gradual removal of the incumbent governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who they say is trying to go for 3rd term by making his first son in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, the next governor of Imo state.
When Daily Times correspondent visited ‘Our Pride bar’, Wetheral Road, Owerri and ‘Mama’s Spot’, Amakohia Owerri, many customers were seen being offered free drinks.
A customer in one of the bars, Mr. Bobbzy from Owerri municipal declared free drinks, saying that, Imo is finally liberated from the Emperor of Imo state, while at Mama’s Spot, Amakohia Owerri, Mr. Shareholder, a popular PDP politician said the free drink will continue till Wednesday, November 7.
Some of the places Imo people have enjoyed the uncommon free drinks with excess jubilation include, Miimii’s place, 40-40 joint, Mbari Kitchen, Ibari Ogwa joint, Rapour Hotels, Pinewood hotel, Happy Day Eatery, Suncity hotel, among others, all in Owerri, Imo state.
