I’m being harassed, Patience Jonathan cries out

*Writes Reps, seeks lawmakers’ intervention against security agencies

Former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has petitioned the House of Representatives, complaining about alleged harrassment by security agencies.

She is, therefore, seeking the intervention of the House to call security agencies to order.

Mrs. Jonathan’s complaint was contained in a petition read during plenary on Thursday by the lawmaker representing Okrika Federal Constituency of Rivers State, Rep. Bright Tamuno.

Presenting the petition, Rep. Tamuno said that because of the sacrifices her husband had made for the country, the House should wade into the matter and call the security agencies to order.

According to him, no former first lady is being harassed in the manner Mrs. Jonathan is.

“No former first lady has been harassed like this before.
“But for the sacrifices that her husband has made for the country, the House should consider and call the security agencies to order,” Tamuno said.
In the petition, Mrs. Jonathan alleged that the harassment was being orchestrated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other agencies of the federal government.
Speaker Yakubu Dogara, thereafter, referred the petition to the House Committee on Public Petitions for further legislative action.
Our correspondent reports that the former first lady had before her latest action petitioned the House on December 7, 2016, complaining about harassment by anti-graft and other security agencies.
