I Will Respect the Constitution – Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, assured Nigerians that he was ready to subject himself to democratic norms and principles if elected later this month.
The former Head of State said this during a parley with media executives in Abuja.
Gen. Buhari, who pleaded for understanding for the roles his military regime played with respect to Decree 4, during his first stint in power, however, assured his audience that he would upheld to the letter the Constitutions of the country.
Said he, “, I want to give you my full assurances that in this democratic dispensation, I will ensure that the Nigerian constitution is upheld.
“This includes respect for the media, respect for the right to free expression and freedom of speech. Page 1 of 2 any of you are aware of Decree 4 of 1984, which was heavily criticised.”
Describing himself as a converted democrat, the APC standard bearer said he was ready to face the rigours of democratic challenges so as to better the lot of the country.
He also assured the gathering that if elected into power, he would eradicate corruption from the land and usher in prosperity.
