I’ll make case for establishment of National Polytechnics Commission – NAPS Boss

The newly elected President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan has said that he will fight to ensure that the federal government establishes a National Polytechnic Commission (NPC) in the country.

Hassan made this known in his acceptance speech after he emerged the winner in the election held in Bauchi.

“By the grace of God I will stand for their rights despite the fact that we know that Polytechnic students are facing numerous challenges in Nigeria, I will fight to ensure the establishment of the National polytechnic Commission”, Prince Mohammed vowed.

Likewise we will also ensure that the dichotomy between polytechnic and university graduates is abolished because up till now we realised that despite the fact that the federal government has said that the dichotomy be abolished,

some organisations are still practising this dichotomy, so during my tenure we will fight to ensure that their names are submitted to government to enforce it”. He added.

Comrade Hassan who was elected at the Weekend a long side other officials of the association to pilot its affairs for the next three years said he would ensure that agreements signed between unions and the government are honoured to put an end to incessant strikes that have affected the polytechnic education in the country.

The election of the new executives which was carried out at the 2017 convention of NAPS held at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi saw Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) ,

Bauchi polling 83 votes to emerge as the new president of association, beating his opponent Comrade James Peter from the Federal Polytechnic, Oghara, Delta state who got 17 votes while 4 votes were invalid.

Others are Zakari Hashimu ((Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi) Secretary General, Abdullahi Nasiru, (Federal Poytechnic Nasarawa (Senate President) Ado Zakari (Jigawa State Polytechnic) PRO and Abdullahi K. Abubakar (Ramat Polytechnic) Financial Secretary.

Daily times Correspondent gathered that Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim from Kaduna Polytechnic had earlier before the election stepped down for Prince Hassan.

The Chairman of the Convention, Comrade Collins Ozele, from Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger state, who said a total number of 106 delegates drawn from Polytechnic and Monotechnics across the country participated at the convention, thanked the delegates for the decorum and maturity exhibited throughout the convention.

He described the election as one of the freest and fairest in the history of the union and thanked delegates for their good behaviour and support which according to him, led to the smooth conduct of the elections.
